The First

"I know"

Children with innocent eyes looking at the universe
Wondering and questioning the perplexed nurse
Asking the queries that many have asked, once more
Not caring if the answers haven’t ever been found before
With fresh curiosity like a sponge dried in the sun
Ready to absorb all the secrets of creation
Combining petals of sense and nonsense
To make the flower of innocence
How long will you last dear blossom,
Once you are plucked from your mother’s bosom?
Away you go to learn the world
All the innocence left back hurled
All your charm is turned to ash and sand
The day you say “I understand”

While the world sleeps
this little girl reaps,
The verse that baffles
even the blistering barnacles!

Sorry about that people, but I never claimed to a poet myself!
