What do they mean, these drops of water?
A child of three, the only daughter
They flowed in succession undaunted
For she got not what she wanted
She was scolded and taught, right from wrong
Then they came tumbling along
Her pretty face was smeared with a stream
Shattering her childhood’s cherished dream
At the age of twelve, she fought with her friend
And cried after that at the friendship’s end
The next a smile and a word
Cut the ice and sheathed the sword
The tears were forgotten and so was the cause
Just a few drops, not a big loss
At the age of sixteen she fell in love
And her heart climbed to the stars above
At first sight it was, not a second thought
Head over heels, the new ones she bought
Alas it didn’t last for he walked away
And not for once looked her way
Her heart was broken, so she felt
A more severe blow was never dealt
She lost a lot that she knew
Like him she would find very few
What she didn’t know was what she gained
With every tear her cheek that stained
She became wiser and mature, forsooth
The tears of eighteen cleared the mists of youth
